We were asked to use a business card, fingers and on other tool of choice.  My new tool of choice was a medication dropper.  After sketching my mountains I implemented my new tool.  I used it on the sky and in the middle ground of bushes.  It worked better than I had imagined.

Powder Sgraffito Drawing 30 in 30 Challenge 2015

I am participating in a 30 in 30 day challenge with Ancient Modern, Kelly Alge.

 

This challenge involves drawing with only black powder frit (powdered glass).  The first drawing I have attempted is a landscape using only my fingers.  It was done in about 5 minutes and it measures 5" X 3 1/2".  I think I did ok for my first try.  However at the end of 30 days I hope to have improved a great deal.  Wish me luck!

Fused Glass Plant Stakes

These are one of my newest additions to my Etsy shop that I wanted to share with you.  The are perfect for your favorite potted plant or herb garden.

I was inspired by the pending warm weather and all the flower beds that I'v been planning the past few weeks.  They are sold in sets of three and I'm working up several different designs.  I hope you love them as much as I loved making them.

Recycled Wine Bottle Serving Trays with Cork Spreader

This 1.5 liter wine bottle has been recycled into a beautiful serving tray. The damask scroll pattern was handpainted with food safe glass enamel and fused into the bottle.

Make a beautiful statement at your next gathering or party. Serve your favorite snack to your friends and family on this elegant serving tray. It also would make the perfect wedding or housewarming gift.

It measures 14 1/2" X 6" and it comes with a wine cork cheese spreader tied to the tray with raffia for a beautiful presentation.

This wonderful bird house is from Storybook Design on Etsy. I think I need the pattern to this one.

This is so darn cute! I can see these lined up on my back fence. A must have for the garden enthusiast.

Fused Glass Candle Votives ( Poppies)

This is my new line of fused glass "Poppy Votives". I make them in several different colors. Each votive is a little time consuming, but worth it! What a wonderful housewarming or wedding gift.

Wine Bottle Wind Chimes (Recycled/Repurposed)

After great consideration I have just completed a new design for my wine bottles. They have turned out so well and are becoming a big hit on my etsy site for the short time that they have been on there.

Each wine bottle is cleaned and the label is removed. I handcut each bottle, then I grind the edges to a smooth finish. After assembling the wind chime, I test each one outside on my patio for its durability. They can handle a nice gentle to medium breeze and they sound wonderful. I'v even left one out in a storm the other day just to see how it would handle a fairly strong wind. It actually did perfect.

Each of my wine bottle wind chimes come in different sizes. No two are ever going to be alike.

They would be perfect for any out door patio or garden area. They also look great just hanging in the corner of a room to add an interesting unique touch.

Fused Glass Coaster in blues

I have something new in my shop today. Perfect for a housewarming gift or just to protect you furniture for those disturbing water rings. I'm starting to really explore my kiln now and I'm having a blast. Currently I'm getting ready for an Art show in West Texas. I'v been so busy the past few weeks. I should probably start thinking about my setup. Talk about manual labor. I may leave that job to my husband. Yes! that is a great idea. Husband will do my booth set up. Thank goodness he is handy like that. LOL

Business Plan

I have not blogged in quite some time. So today I'm going to try to turn over a new leaf. I have decided to open a stained glass and fusing studio in down town Waco, Texas. I have just started making a business plan to present to my bank to see how much money they will loan me for my start up. I never realized that the making a business plan was such a pain in my ... Anyway I have fininished with my mission statement and my studio description. Now I'm working on my objectives and goals. I never realized that there was so much involved. I will be looking for a mentor in the very near future. If anyone of my followers fits this bill, please feel free to contact me through my blog by leaving a comment. I need all the support and help I can get.

Prior to dedication her studies to the Venetian technique of offhand glassblowing at The Studio at The Corning Museum Of Glass in 2006. Jessie was an accomplished photographic restoration artist, whose work has been distributed internationally, and includes clients such as The Sultan of Brunei, Willie Nelson, Harvard University, Richard Avedon, and the Kennedy Museum.

Wine Bottle Evolution

Today’s wine bottle comes from a long history of wine storage. Originally, containers were made of stone, wood, leather or earthenware.
The original glass bottles were for wealthy Europeans and were thin-walled glass bottles used to transport wine from the cask to be drunk immediately. Since they were so fragile, they were often supported with metal frames or wicker (which is still used for some Chianti bottles).
Today’s wine bottle actually owes its beginnings not to the French… It was the English that developed heavier, pigmented glass that allowed cork to be used as a stopper. The wine bottle shape was hand blown and it was balloon shaped. Storing the balloon shaped bottles proved to be difficult, so cylindrical bottles were developed to allow for better storage.
Today's wine bottles are typically French styles and are called bordeaux. These bottles are high shouldered bottles. The bordeaux bottles are the one that I use when making my wine bottle cheese trays. I prefer this type of bottle because once it has been fired in my kiln it has a larger surface for serving your favorite snacks on. Other shapes of wine bottles I find to be too slender or just too small.
I would like to share with you the process it takes for the wine bottle to become a cheese tray. First I collect my wine bottles from a local wine bar. I always recycle and like to think that I'm helping our enviorment. The bottles are then soaked in very hot water to help remove the labels. The are cleaned inside and out. Now the bottles must dry completely out. This takes about three to four days. There must be no moisture in the bottle before firing. I then place a piece of wire in the neck of the bottle and secure with a touch of glue. Once this has dried they are ready for the kiln. It takes about eight hours to completely fire the wine bottles. They must reach around 1,425 degrees to melt completely. After the firing is complete (no peeking) the kiln needs to cool down to room temputure before I can remove them.
